City Assessor Elyse Paré elected VP of the Rhode Island Association of Assessing Officers

WOONSOCKET, RI: City Assessor, Elyse M. Paré, has been elected Vice President of the Rhode Island Association of Assessing Officers (RIAAO), the state’s only professional organization of municipal tax assessors. Ms. Paré’s term as VP of the organization officially began this week after RIAAO’s most recent meeting.

“It is in honor to serve as the newly elected Vice President of the RIAAO,” said City Assessor Elyse Paré. “It is my goal to positively impact policy and procedure followed by Assessors throughout the State to benefit taxpayers. It has been a pleasure to serve the public for over eleven years and I look forward to my service as Vice President of RIAAO and as the Assessor in the City of Woonsocket.”

Ms. Paré has served as the City Assessor for the City of Woonsocket since December, 2015, having previously worked for the City of Providence for four years. As City Assessor, Ms. Paré oversees the assessments of all residential, commercial, and tangible property in the city for purposes of taxation.

“I am thrilled to hear and very happy for Elyse to have been named to a leadership position in the Rhode Island Association of Assessing Officers,” said Mayor Lisa Baldelli-Hunt. “My sense is that taxpayers in our community already recognize Elyse as a true professional and this announcement is a well deserved recognition of the skill and leadership I associate with our City Assessor. She is an asset to our team at City Hall and I look forward to continuing to move the City forward with the talented staff we have assembled.”

The Rhode Island Association of Assessing Officers is an organization of, for, and by the Tax Assessors of each city and town in Rhode Island. The Association meets every other month and discusses events, issues, and trends in municipal tax assessment in an effort to further the knowledge and art of Tax Assessment for its members. RIAAO subcommittees include the Legislative Committee which focuses on laws relative to taxation and the potential impact proposed legislation will have on municipalities and constituents, and also the Motor Vehicle Committee which provides the group with updates from the Rhode Island Vehicle Value Commission.
