Woonsocket to Host Free Hazardous Waste Collection and Document Shredding Day

WOONSOCKET, R.I.: Mayor Lisa Baldelli-Hunt announced today that the City of Woonsocket in conjunction with Rhode Island Resource Recovery will host a free hazardous waste collection day on Saturday, May 20. All Rhode Island residents will have the opportunity to bring hazardous waste (chemicals that are toxic, flammable, corrosive, or reactive) to the Public Services Division Facility at 1117 River Street between the hours of 8:00 am and 1:00 pm.

 

“Our team in the Solid Waste Division consistently offers creative ways to incentivize residents to dispose of or recycle waste,” said Mayor Lisa Baldelli-Hunt. “Hazardous waste should be disposed of in a proper manner, and we can help residents do that with this free event. RI Resource Recovery has been a great partner as Woonsocket strives to be cleaner, greener, and safer.”

 

In addition to free hazardous waste disposal, Rhode Island residents will be able to drop off e-waste, such as computers and various other electronic equipment. Free document shredding will also be available for Woonsocket residents only on a first come fist serve basis.

 

“This is our largest community recycle event that we host and the City of Woonsocket is grateful to Rhode Island Resource Recovery for their efforts in providing the Eco-Depot services in our City,” said Solid Waste Superintendant Michael Debroisse. “This is the perfect opportunity for RI residents to do the right thing and properly dispose of hazardous waste that may be laying around their homes. Participating will help make your home safe, your family safe, and the City of Woonsocket safe.”
