The City of Woonsocket Tax Assessor’s Office functions as part of the Finance Department. The Assessor exercises power relative to the assessment of Real Estate, Tangible Personal Property and Motor Vehicles which is used to levy municipal taxes as well as maintaining records on the assessments and ownership. The mission of the Tax Assessor is to assess all taxes, special assessments, and other tax related revenues which are due to the City.
The Tax Assessor is also an advisor to the Board of Tax Assessment Review, which reviews property appeals submitted to it by taxpayers wishing to appeal their assessments.
Per RIGL 44-5-11.6, real estate properties are to be re-assessed every three years and on the ninth year, a full revaluation is to be complete. Our last statistical revaluation was 12/31/14. Assessments for the 2015, 2016 and 2017 tax bills are based on this date. Our next full revaluation is set for 12/31/2017.
