Woonsocket Public Safety Telecommunications patch

Dispatch

The Communications Center of the Woonsocket Police Department is the hub of the Department and is staffed 24 hours a day, with a minimum of three dispatchers. Sworn Police Officers also work in the dispatch center, when needed. The Dispatchers work at three separate workstations in the Communications Center and have a fourth workstation available if the call frequency requires.  The Communications Center is equipped with the RISCON statewide 800 MHz radio system and are able to communicate with Public Safety agencies statewide. Additionally, the Communications Center has multiple widescreen monitors to monitor the city-wide CCTV system.

Types of Calls

The majority of calls for service are received at the Department's Communications Center. Dispatchers answer routine calls for service, 911 phones, and emergency calls. Woonsocket Dispatchers dispatch Police, Fire and Rescue (EMS). Annually the Communications Center dispatches more than 60,000 calls for service, a very busy place to say the least.

Dispatchers maintain an accurate status of Police/Fire/EMS personnel via a computer aided dispatching (CAD) system. Dispatchers conduct computer searches through local, state and national crime databases for wanted subjects, stolen property, driver and vehicle information. Dispatchers process confirmations on arrest warrants and relay information to requesting officers.
