APPLICATIONS:

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS TO APPLY:
• Must be 18 years of age
• Must be a US citizen
• Must possess a valid driver’s license
• Minimum of a high school diploma, or equivalent
• Have no felony convictions

SALARY
• Probationary salary rate: $789.29 per week
• Salary rate after probation: $1,079.47 per week

JOB DESCRIPTION
The Woonsocket Police Department is an accredited law enforcement agency committed to the community policing philosophy. At full strength, the Department has 101 officers assigned throughout its Divisions and Specialized Units: Uniform Patrol / Detectives / K-9 / Juvenile Division / Court Prosecution / Traffic / Vice / SWAT / Honor Guard / Training / Internal Affairs.
Police officers have the responsibility and duty to safeguard life and property through legal and ethical enforcement of State / Federal law and City Ordinances, to respond to and take action in emergencies, to competently investigate crimes and pursue offenders, to diligently maintain order and to address quality of life issues with respect for all persons, following established policies and procedures.

OVERVIEW OF THE RECRUITING PROCESS
The process will take several months to complete. Strict instructions will be provided for each stage and compliance with these instructions is part of the evaluation process.

WRITTEN TEST
 

Applicants who pass the written exam are invited to take the Fitness Assessment.

FITNESS ASSESSMENT
 

Applicants who pass the Written and Fitness assessment are invited to the Oral Board.

*The Woonsocket Police Department will accept a passing FIT2SERVE test.

FINAL LIST
Applicants who complete these stages will be placed on a hiring list that is active for a period of at least six months and up to two years.
Prior to employment, applicants on the hiring list are subject to an extensive background check, psychological assessment, and a medical examination, as well as a fitness test by the Rhode Island Municipal Police Training Academy.
