EYEGLASSES RECYCLING DAY TO HELP DELIVER  THE GIFT OF SIGHT FOR THE HOLIDAYS

WOONSOCKET, R.I.:  Mayor Lisa Baldelli-Hunt announced today that the City of Woonsocket Department of Public Works Solid Waste Division in observance of America Recycles Day will partner with the Lions Club of Rhode Island to conduct an Eyeglass Recycling Day on Saturday, November 16th from 8:00 AM to 12:00 PM at the City Recycling Center at 943 River Street in Woonsocket.  Items that can be dropped off are eyeglasses, reading glasses and sunglasses.  Once received, the Lions Club of Rhode Island will recycle the eyeglasses to needy children and adults throughout Rhode Island.

“The holidays are such a beautiful time of the year, and what could be better than recycling something that will help others better enjoy their holiday experience and then provide them with the ongoing gift of sight?” exclaimed the Mayor.  “We do a lot of recycling in Woonsocket, but I cannot think of anything recycled that will be more important to a person’s life than eyeglasses,”  added the Mayor.  Mike Debroisse, Solid Waste Department Manager, stated “This is a great opportunity to clear household clutter for the holidays and recycle unwanted, no- longer-used eyeglasses to make a positive impact on the lives of children, seniors and anyone else in Rhode Island who needs eyeglasses but who cannot afford them.”

The Eyeglass Recycling Day is part of the City of Woonsocket’s ongoing “Green Initiative” to improve both the environment and resident lives through recycling and the more efficient use of energy.  The Lions Club of Rhode Island has redistributed thousands of used eyeglasses to needy children and adults throughout Rhode Island to better their opportunities at school, work and everyday life.

Mayor Baldelli-Hunt would like to thank “Keep the Blackstone Valley Beautiful Organization” for their continued inclusion of Woonsocket in their efforts to reduce waste, litter and keep beautiful communities.
