Mayor Announces Woonsocket Resident COVID Vaccination Eligibility Expansion to Ages 16+ and 1,000 Appointments for Sears State Vaccination Site to be Available Today at 5:00 PM

WOONSOCKET, R.I.: Woonsocket Mayor Lisa Baldelli-Hunt announced today that the State has expanded COVID-19 vaccination eligibility to Woonsocket residents (zip code 02895) who are 16 years of age and older. The Mayor also disclosed that approximately 1,000 vaccination appointments will be made available today, April 9th, at 5:00 PM for the Woonsocket State-run mass vaccination site at 1500 Diamond Hill Road in the former Sears store.

Mayor Baldelli-Hunt exclaimed, “I am pleased that the State has immediately expanded COVID-19 vaccination eligibility to Woonsocket residents who are 16 years and older because we have seen recent upticks in COVID cases, and the expanded vaccination eligibility will allow our residents to receive vaccinations sooner which will help us more rapidly lower the COVID-19 infection risk in our City.” The Mayor added, “The majority of our most vulnerable senior population has already been vaccinated and by vaccinating our younger populations we will be able to get back to doing the things we love doing in Woonsocket a lot quicker. I urge all of our residents to take advantage of this expanded age opportunity and register to receive a vaccination.”

Woonsocket residents who are aged 16 and over can sign up for the approximate 1,000 appointment slots at the State-run mass vaccination site at 1500 Diamond Hill Road today, April 9th at 5:00 PM on www.vaccinateri.org. Residents who are not able to register on-line can receive assistance by calling 844-930-1779 or by dialing 2-1-1. Eligible Woonsocket residents may also register for a vaccination at any of the other State-run vaccination sites or at retail pharmacies. There is no requirement to have insurance to get vaccinated in Rhode Island, and the vaccination is free.

Individuals who are not yet eligible to get vaccinated against COVID-19 can pre-register by signing up for the Vaccine Interest Notification List at www.portalri.gov. Individuals will be notified by e-mail, text, or phone call when they are eligible and when there is an available appointment.
