Charter Review Commission

Charter Review Commission

On February 15th 2024, Mayor Christopher Beauchamp, as required by the Woonsocket Home Rule Charter, convened a Charter Review Commission composed of five citizens of Woonsocket. The Commission will meet six times in public forum to review the Charter, hear public comment and suggestions and make recommendations to the City Council as to potential changes to the charter. The City Council will examine and review these recommendations at its normal public meetings and, in its sole discretion, forward any changes it finds having merit to the Rhode Island Secretary of State for inclusion on the November 2024 general election ballot. The ultimate authority to change the Charter, as always, lies with the citizens of Woonsocket who will vote for or against any changes on Election Day.
