Mayor Baldelli-Hunt Announces Rededication of Dupre Field at Cass Park

Woonsocket, R.I.: Mayor Lisa Baldelli-Hunt announced today that the City of Woonsocket will rededicate Dupre Field at Cass Park in a ceremony tomorrow August 6, 2021 at 9:30 a.m. The field was named in honor of former Woonsocket Mayor Ernest E. Dupre (1943 – 1948) and his son Ernest L. Dupre M.D., and the ceremony will feature the presentation of a bronze plaque recognizing their work on behalf of Woonsocket’s youth. The public is invited to join City officials and members of the Dupre family for the rededication ceremony.

Mayor Baldelli-Hunt stated, “Mayor Dupre and his son Dr. Ernest L. Dupre were both instrumental in establishing our successful Little League Baseball program that has brought so much enjoyment to our youth and their families over the years.” The Mayor added, “I am pleased to be part of the rededication of Dupre Field at Cass Park so that we can further recognize the Dupres’ important contributions to the development and advancement of our City’s youth.”

The baseball field at Cass Park was named “Dupre Field” in 1987 in acknowledgement of the efforts of Mayor Ernest E. Dupre and Dr. Ernest L. Dupre in bringing Little League Baseball to Woonsocket. Cass Park has recently undergone major renovations and improvements and the new girls’ softball field will be the site of the Dupre Field rededication.
