What is unlawful discrimination?

It is against the law to say that housing is not available for inspection, sale or rental when the housing is, in fact, available.  It is against the law to make any written or oral inquiry concerning the age, race, color, religion, sex, sexual orientation, marital status, disability, familial status, or country of ancestral origin.  It is against the law to take out any advertisements relating to the sale, rental, or lease of such housing accommodations which indicate any preference, limitation, specifications or discrimination based upon age, race, color, religion, sex, sexual orientation, marital status, disability, familial status, or country of ancestral origin.

It is against the law for a lending institution to make any oral or written inquiries concerning the age, race, color, religion, sex, sexual orientation, marital status, disability, familial status, or country of ancestral origin when an application is made for a loan or other form of financial assistance for the acquisition, construction, rehabilitation, repair, or maintenance of any housing accommodation.

It is against the law to advertise housing that is for rent or sale or to accept a housing listing which is intended to discriminate against any person covered by the Fair Housing Laws.
