2016 Road Reconstruction Program update

WOONSOCKET, RI: Improvements to City streets continued this week as four more roads underwent milling and paving as part of the City’s 2016 Road Reconstruction Program. Road resurfacing is underway on Fairmount Street, Blackstone Street, and Fournier Street, while Lemay Road is being entirely reconstructed. Work is expected to be completed within the next 2 weeks.

“It is exciting to see the progress our Public Works Department has made on resurfacing the streets in our community,” said Mayor Lisa Baldelli-Hunt. “By investing in our own paving equipment, we have been able to achieve cost savings while improving our City’s infrastructure. Our DPW has done a great job and I am looking forward to their continued progress on our roads throughout the summer.”

The City’s 2016 Road Reconstruction Program began in May with improvements made thus far on Poplar Street, Ridge Street, and Campeau Street. Road reconstruction has been largely performed in its entirety by the Woonsocket Department of Public Works, thanks to the recent purchase of an asphalt paver, which has allowed the City to realize project cost savings of approximately 30-40%.
