WOONSOCKET, RI: Woonsocket Wastewater Treatment Facility Acting Superintendent Adel Banoub has been selected as the recipient of the 2016 New England Water Environment Association, Inc. Alfred E. Peloquin Award in the State of Rhode Island. The award is given annually to an individual who has shown a high level of interest and performance in wastewater operations and who has made a significant contribution to the wastewater field.

“It is a great honor to be recognized for the work that my entire career has been dedicated to,” said Adel Banoub, Acting Superintendant of the Woonsocket Wastewater Treatment Facility. “I have had the pleasure of working in a community that has recognized the importance of supporting its water infrastructure over the years and into the future. NEWEA is an outstanding professional organization and I am thankful to receive this year’s Alfred E. Peloquin Award.”

This year’s award recognizes Mr. Banoub for his initiatives toward training programs for wastewater treatment and his many years of dedicated service to the association, including a period as its Executive Director. Mr. Banoub currently represents the City in the management and operations of the wastewater facility located on Cumberland Hill Road. The facility processes wastewater from Woonsocket as well as North Smithfield, and Blackstone, MA.

“Adel is known within our local and professional community as someone of tremendous work ethic, character, and skill,” said Mayor Lisa Baldelli-Hunt. “I would like to thank Adel for his 39 years of dedicated service to the Woonsocket community and congratulate him on this great accomplishment.”

Mr. Banoub began his career at the wastewater facility as a chemist in 1977 and was later promoted to superintendant in 1986. The 2016 Alfred E. Peloquin Award will be presented to Mr. Banoub at the NEWEA annual conference in Boston on January 25, at a luncheon reception.
