Mayor Issues Executive Order To Help “Market Square” Restaurants

WOONSOCKET, RI:  Mayor Lisa Baldelli-Hunt announced today that she is issuing an Executive Order to assist restaurants in Market Square as they plan to partially reopen, consistent with the Governor’s new directive.  As stated by the Mayor, “our restaurants have been devastated due to the COVID-19 pandemic.   We have a moral obligation to take quick and decisive action to support their efforts as they attempt to reopen and offer outside dining services.”

As stated in the Executive Order, there will be a partial closing of roads around Market Square to allow restaurants to set-up tables on sidewalks, parking lots, and roads.  The Executive Order will be for the days of May 22, May 23, May 24, May 29, and May 30.  The partial road closings will be from 6PM to 10PM on Fridays, and 12PM to 10PM on Saturdays and Sunday.  The Executive Order will also allow restaurants with Liquor Licenses to serve outside patrons who are eating food.  As explained by the Mayor, these restaurants have limited outside space on their properties for dining.  The Executive Order will provide the restaurants with the necessary outside area to provide dining services consistent with the restrictions established by the Governor.

Mayor Baldelli-Hunt explained that her Administration has had conversations with Christopher’s Kitchen & Bar and Ye Olde English Fish and Chips, who have expressed the need for assistance.  The Mayor’s Administration has also reached out to River Falls to assess their needs. As stated by the Mayor, “we will work closely with these restaurants and the City’s Department of Public Safety and Department of Public Works to ensure the needs of the restaurants are supported while also protecting public safety. Although there will be a partial closing, “the Main Street area of Market Square will still be accessible by vehicle”, as stated by the Mayor.  The Mayor indicated that her Administration would consider extending the Executive Order depending on future directives from the Governor.
