Napoleon “Nap” Lajoie Field dedication postponed

WOONSOCKET, RI: The dedication ceremony planned for Monday, September 5, 2016 in honor Woonsocket native and Baseball Hall of Famer Napoleon “Nap” Lajoie has been postponed in light of a forecast of inclement weather set to arrive in the region for the latter half of the weekend. The remnants of Hurricane Hermine are expected to bring significant rain and strong winds to Northern Rhode Island that event planners, the City of Woonsocket and the Woonsocket Little League, decided would prevent the ceremony from going forward as planned. A new date for the ceremony and inaugural game is set for the weekend of October 8 & 9, during the popular Autumnfest celebration. The ceremony start time will be shared at a date in the near future.

Monday’s ceremony was set to coincide with the birthday of the Lajoie, regarded as one of the best second baseman in the history of the Major Leagues. The new date for the dedication ceremony will be scheduled within the festivities of Autumnfest weekend.
