Woonsocket to Distribute Free COVID-19 Test Kits to City Residents at Rivers Edge Recreation Complex

WOONSOCKET, R.I.: Mayor Lisa Baldelli-Hunt announced today that the City of Woonsocket will distribute COVID-19 rapid antigen test kits to City residents at Rivers Edge Recreation Complex on Davison Avenue on Tuesday, January 25, from 10:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. The tests will be handed out by means of a drive-thru near the complex’s concession stand. Recipients of the free test kits must be a Woonsocket resident. Proof of residency is required at pick-up. Please have your valid driver’s license or other ID ready as you wait in line to facilitate efficient distribution of the kits. Two test kits will be distributed per vehicle or while supplies last.

Mayor Baldelli-Hunt exclaimed, “We are pleased to be able to offer our Woonsocket residents free COVID-19 test kits. The recent surge in COVID-19 cases has caused a shortage of test kits across the State and many of our residents are concerned that they, or a loved one, may have the virus, and have not been able to get tested. Testing will help put their minds at ease if they do not have the virus and will help prevent the spread of the virus if they test positive.”

Deputy Fire Chief, Roger Perreault stated, “We encourage all of our residents to pick up a free COVID-19 test kit at Rivers Edge. We expect a good number of people to take advantage of this opportunity, and while we are taking steps to manage the distribution of these kits in an orderly fashion, everyone’s patience will be appreciated.”

As a reminder, testing is available seven days a week from 8:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. at the state-run facility at the Woonsocket Elks Lodge located on 380 Social Street. Appointments can be booked at portal.ri.gov or by calling 401-222-8022.
