Woonsocket DPW uses new leaf vac system for fall cleanup

WOONSOCKET, RI: The Woonsocket Department of Public Works unveiled their newest tool in their ongoing mission to maintain and oversee public infrastructure and spaces – a leaf vac system that has been deployed to City streets and parks to battle the autumn season’s falling foliage. The latest equipment investment was deployed to Cold Spring and Globe Parks this week to curb the ever growing piles of leaves.

“Clean parks and streets are key parts of the quality of life equation that the City must continually address,” said Mayor Lisa Baldelli-Hunt. “This new investment will equip our Public Works Department with the tools to keep our parks and streets clean and tidy. Over the past two years, the City has revitalized many of the parks in the community and our new equipment will help protect that investment.”

The heavy-duty leaf vac system creates a powerful suction force that collects the noticeable mounds of leaves quickly piling up along roads, sidewalks, and in City parks. The machine also has a mulching feature that assists in the composting of the natural debris.

“We have a versatile group of dedicated staff that have had a great hand in maintaining and improving the quality of life in the community,” Said Steve D’Agostino, Director of Public Works. “With the right investment we have shown that we can achieve great things while performing our civic responsibilities.”

The new piece of equipment will be used throughout the fall season in public spaces across the City.
