Woonsocket Fire Department Teams With Job Lot
to Provide Winter Coats to Those In Need
Department partners with Rhode Island Association of Fire Chiefs and Ocean State Job Lot to deliver 96 winter coats to local community organizations

WOONSOCKET, R.I.: The Woonsocket Fire Department (WFD) announced today it has joined the Rhode Island Association of Fire Chiefs (RIAFC) and Ocean State Job Lotto distribute 96 warm winter coats to Woonsocket based community organizations to assist those in need this winter. Ocean State Job Lot donated the new coats to RIAFC, the professional and advocacy organization for Rhode Island’s Fire Chiefs, which then distributed them to local departments within the state, including the WFD.

“This inspiring act of generosity has warmed the hearts of many during the coldest time of the year,” said Mayor Lisa Baldelli-Hunt. “Thanks to the generosity of Ocean State Job Lot and its customers, RIAFC, and WFD, 96 Woonsocket residents have been given a helping hand this winter.”

Ocean State Job Lot, the Rhode Island based retailer, distributed 600 new winter coats to the RIAFC this season as part of their annual effort to give back to local communities in Rhode Island. The retailer has a long history of supporting all first responders.

“The Woonsocket Fire Department is always seeking to build relationships and support the community that we serve,” said Chief Paul Shatraw of the Woonsocket Fire Department. “The men and women of the department are humbled to be a part of this effort. I applaud the support that the RIAFC, Ocean State Job Lot and its customers have given to those in need within our City.”

Woonsocket was one of six communities to receive coats from the RIAFC. The coats were distributed to local community organizations, including Calvary Worship Church, Harvest Community Men’s Shelter, Sojourner House, Woonsocket High School, and Community Care Alliance. Each organization will now be able to provide new winter coats to Woonsocket residents lacking appropriate winter clothing.

“Ocean State Job Lot holds all first responders in high esteem for the invaluable services they provide to all of us,” said David Sarlitto, executive director, Ocean State Job Lot and Ocean State Job Lot Charitable Foundation. “Through the generosity of our customers with this initiative, we partnered with the fire chiefs to distribute the coats throughout the areas where Job Lot stores are located, and the fire chiefs serve, as one way to work together to support people in need within our communities.”
