Woonsocket Veterans Day observance to be held Friday

WOONSOCKET, RI: Mayor Lisa Baldelli-Hunt in collaboration with the United Veterans Council of Woonsocket announced that a community observance in honor of Veterans Day will be held on Friday, November 11, at 11:00 a.m. at the United Veterans Armed Forces Park on Davison Street.  Participants in the morning’s ceremony will include local Veteran’s Organizations, Woonsocket High School Air Force Junior ROTC, the Woonsocket Police and Fire Department Honor Guards, Mayor Lisa Baldelli-Hunt, local elected and community leaders, and the Woonsocket High School Band.
“The City of Woonsocket could not be prouder of our veterans, both past and present,” said Mayor Lisa Baldelli-Hunt. “This Veterans Day, our community will honor those among us who have defended our freedom near and far and remember those who made the ultimate sacrifice.”
Immediately following the Veterans Day observance, the Museum of Work and Culture located at 42 South Main Street, will hold its annual Veterans Day event. Throughout the day there will be no admission charge for veterans and their families.
“Veterans Day is about celebrating all veterans and thanking them for their service to our country,” said Ernie Boisvert, President of the United Veterans Council of Woonsocket. “The brave men and women of our armed forces deserve the utmost respect and we are proud to honor their courage and dedication.”
Event parking can be found in public lots adjacent to the entrance of the Blackstone River Bikeway & Rivers Edge Sports Complex as well as at the Woonsocket Middle School. Limited seating will be available. In the event of inclement weather, the event will be held indoors at the Museum of Work & Culture (42 South Main Street).  Announcement of any changes due to weather will be made on WOON 1240 and WNRI 1380 as well as www.woonsocketri.org by 9:00 a.m. on Friday.
