I received a traffic ticket. What are my options?

If you have received a traffic ticket, know your options:

  • You can pay the full amount you owe if:
    • You have not received 3 or more traffic summonses within the past 12 months.
    • You have not been found guilty of a moving violation within the past 6 months.
    • You have not been charged with speeding 25 mph over the posted speed limit.
    • A hearing is not otherwise required for this violation.
  • What is the advantage of paying your fine?
    • If you pay your fine, you will not have to appear in court, and you will not have to pay the court costs of $35.00 that will be added to your fine if you do go to court.
  • What is the disadvantage of paying by mail?
  • If you appear in court and are eligible, you may have your violation dismissed under the "good driving record" provision. Be aware that even if your violation is dismissed under this provision, you will still have to pay court costs of $35.00
  • If you are eligible to pay your fine, you can make payments in the following manner:
    • Pay-by-mail:  Follow the directions on the citation you were issued
    • Pay in person at the Woonsocket City Treasury (169 Main St., Woonsicket, RI  02895)
